8th World Water Forum Held in Brasilia, Chinese Enterprises led by CWPP Attended the Forum

The 8th edition of the World Water Forum (WWF8), with the overarching theme of “Sharing Water”, was held in Brasília, Brazil from 18 to 23 March, 2018. The Chinese delegation, headed by Mr. Zhou Xuewen, Vice Minister of Water Resources, participated in various activities of the Forum.

On behalf of the Ministry of Water Resources (MWR) of China, CWPP organized a group of Chinese water-related enterprises to attend the Expo and other sessions of the Forum. It has been the 7th time for CWPP to have organized Chinese enterprise exhibitors to attend the World Water Forum since WWF2. More than ten exhibitors, including State Grid Corporation of China, China Three Gorges Corporation, Power Construction Corporation of China, Changjiang Water Resources Commission of MWR, General Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Planning and Design of MWR, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, Education and Communication Center of MWR, News Agency of China Water Resources, Xiaolangdi Project Construction & Management Center of MWR, China Water Engineering Association, and Shandong Provincial Water Information Center participated in China Pavilion’s exhibition on WWF8.

Vice Minister Zhou Xuewen, together with some other high-level officials of the ministry visited the China Pavilion and greeted the staff on the morning of 19th March.

With an area of 162 sqm, the China Pavilion showcased the Chinese national achievements in water governance and shared China's experience in the areas of floods and droughts prevention and control, ensuring water supply security, developing irrigated agriculture, promoting ecological progress in water sector and water resources management. The Chinese enterprise exhibitors introduced their advanced ideas and technologies and typical cases to the international community, and had in-depth exchange with foreign peers. Mr. Li Zhongfeng, Vice President of CWPP attended the 64th Board of Governors Meeting and Extraordinary General Assembly of World Water Council from 16th to 17th March which were also held in Brasília.

On the morning of the 20th March, Mr. Ying Youfeng, President of CWPP, met with Mr. Enrique Huelva Unternbäumen, Vice-rector of University of Brasília (UnB) and Director-general of Confucius Institute at UnB, and Ms. Wang Lijuan, Dean of Confucius Institute at UnB, and discussed the possibility of future cooperation in the fields of culture exchange, publishing and so on. After the meeting, a ceremony was held at which CWPP presented some of its selected publications to the Confucius Institute at UnB.

The World Water Forum is the world’s biggest water-related event and is organized by the World Water Council.

The 8th World Water Forum was organized in Brazil by the World Water Council (WWC), by the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment (MMA), represented by Brazil’s National Water Agency (ANA), and by the Government of the Federal District, represented by the Regulatory Agency for Water, Energy and Basic Sanitation of the Federal District (Adasa). 
According to its official website (www.worldwaterforum8.org), the 8th World Water Forum is the largest edition in the history of the even. The opening of WWF8 was attended by 12 heads of State and Government, as well as high-level international authorities. The seven-day forum had received more than 120.2 thousand people from 172 different countries.
