On 10 May, on the occasion of National Conference on Publicity Work in Water Sector, Wei Shanzhong, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Water Resources (MWR), unveiled the official plaque of China Water and Power Publishing & Media Group Co., Ltd. (the Group), along with Tu Shuming, Chairman of the Board and Party Secretary of the Group, and Ying Youfeng, President of the Group. Wei pointed out that the founding of the Group was an important action to deepen the reform of the national cultural system, as well as a solid move towards improving publicity work and enhancing cultural construction in the water sector. He hoped that the Group will adhere to the correct direction of publication to properly guide the public opinion, focus on the key tasks of water conservancy, publish more high quality works, and play a due role in the publicity work and cultural construction of the water sector. The Vice Minister also called on the water departments of all levels and organizations in the water sector to support and facilitate the Group’s development.

Geng Liucheng, Director General of the General Office of MWR, Jiang Chengshan, Deputy Counsel of the General Office of MWR, and directors in charge of publicity work from departments and institutions of MWR and water resources departments of provincial governments witnessed the inauguration of the Group.

Since its founding on January 1, 1956, China Water & Power Press has consistently pursued to serve the people and socialism with its publications, put social benefits first and upheld its fundamental goal of “facilitating the development of water and power industries, disseminating science and technology, and promoting arts and culture”. Up to now, more than 40,000 titles of S&T books and other publications have been published by CWPP, a number of which won top awards and prized for publishing, marking CWPP’s irreplaceable contributions to the reform and development of China’s water sector and helping CWPP be included in the “National Advanced Publishing Unit” list (27 in total) and the “National Culturally-Advanced Unit” list. CWPP has been vigorously pushing ahead with its development strategies of “reforming through conglomeration, digital transition, international expansion, diversified growth and professional operation” in recent years. Happily, MWR approved to set up the China Water and Power Publishing & Media Group in October 2014. The General Office of the State Council finalized the approval of establishing of the China Water and Power Publishing & Media Group Co., Ltd. in November 2017. And in March 2019 the organizational structure plan got the approval from Department of Human Resources of MWR. Then the Group completed its business registration in April 2019, transforming from a single scholarly publishing house to a comprehensive publishing and media group. It has five wholly-owned companies, including the China Water & Power Press Co., Ltd. who has shares in Beijing Multi-Channel Electronic Information Co., Ltd. and other 4 companies.
